How did you meet: Leon & I met 4 & half years ago while working on a Rio Tinto Site, the Project was to refurbish a small mining town called Pannawonica, 2 hours inland from Karratha (WA). I was working in the construction office and Leon was a carpenter, love started to blossom the night of the Pannawonica Rodeo!
Why did you choose your venue/location: We looked around at several locations for the wedding, NZ, Bali, Cairns, but when we searched the Whitsundays it just looked so magical! It had everything we wanted in one location, the beach, fishing, Great Barrier Reef, the islands, the pubs, and everything was in walking distance! It was also half way for our family & friends travelling from Perth & New Zealand.
Where did you splurge & where did you save: We splurged in the decorations, and we saved in the food costs, the Sailing club has very good pricing on food & drink!
What was your key styling inspiration: I wanted something elegant but a relaxed feel, I love candles and fairy lights/ lanterns and that was the basis of my styling. From there The Event Co & Helen helped me create a masterpiece, we included the beautiful white drapes, crystal curtains, beautiful outdoor furniture, white tree centrepieces. We wanted our guests to feel relaxed and happy, to drink & dance the night away!
Funniest Moment: The speeches were the funniest, everyone had a funny story to share about me and Leon, it was great having some humour to and not be too serious.
Special Memory: Leon & I wrote our own vows and kept them a secret from each other until the ceremony. It was so special to do that and to hear our vows for each other for the first time on our wedding day. The guys also did a haka for us, that was extremely special.
Advice for other brides-to-be: Add a Videographer in your budget, for the ceremony at least! And don’t worry about the little things, enjoy every moment as it comes. We spend so much time planning and trying to make everything perfect, but on the day you need to let everything go with the flow and have fun! And after the wedding, don’t think back at what you could have changed or done differently.
Special Thanks: I couldn’t have been able to manage the wedding without the help of Total Weddings, Helen made me completely stress free on the day and we didn’t have to worry about anything but rocking up to the wedding! Helen coordinated everything on the day so it all went smoothly. Thanks to Events Co too, their decorations and set up were so beautiful and everything was put together so wonderfully!
